In my review of Reginald Hill’s latest, The Woodcutter, at rte (see http://www.reviewingtheevidence.com/review.html?id=8586) I concluded  “Do I think THE WOODCUTTER is in the highest rank of the Hill canon? No. Is THE WOODCUTTER a terrific mystery, a truly compelling novel and a must-read? You bet.”

It is impossible to discuss this book without spoilers. The exact ending is hidden and I will not reveal it, but the general plot is not in the form of a mystery.There is certainly no question of whodunnit, but if you have not finished the book it still might be wise to ignore this post until you have.
