J.F. Straker – Another Man’s Poison (1983)

A much later book (1983) this is more thriller than mystery. A wealthy
author’s wife is kidnapped, he pays the ransom and she is set free; no
contact is made with police as she dreads publicity. His childhood best
friend now a police sergeant helps him to handle the transaction. This is a
thoroughly unpleasant book in which the twist barely deserves the name.

The obsession with black people which I noted in connection with Final Witness is even more unhealthy here. This is the kind of book which gives the description psychological thriller a bad name.
