In general I am a bigger fan of Joyce Holms the speaker (unbelievably
wonderful) than the books, but Hidden Depths was an exception (and I had
disliked Hot Potato the previous book) ; definitely the best in the series for me.

For one thing it had a genuinely interesting and, again to me, original
motive; a motive which oddly enough reflected some discussions I had
heard at a Trollope conference I attended (albeit pushed to madness).
To discover a new motive is quite rare and Holms uses it in an adroit
fashion, mingling it with a few reasonably convincing red herrings and
sub-plots. It is a pleasure for me to be really enthusiastic about a
Holms and I can whole-heartedly recommend this one.
